Paste a URL, DOI, ISBN or title, or fill in the form yourself — the citation updates as you type, and you can copy it formatted, with italics and hanging indent intact, or as plain text. Under the tool you will find the APA rules for this source type, worked examples, and the mistakes students make most often.
The rules: APA format for websites
Template: Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of webpage in sentence case. Site Name in Title Case. https://www.example.com/page
- Give the author’s surname first, then initials. If the author is an organisation, write the organisation’s full name as the author.
- Use the full date the page was published — year, month and day — not just the year.
- Write the webpage title in sentence case: capitalise only the first word, the first word after a colon, and proper nouns. The page title is italicised.
- Follow it with the site name in title case (the website itself, if different from the author), then the full URL. Do not end the entry with a full stop after the URL.
- If a page has no author, start with the title and put the date after it. If it has no date, use (n.d.).
- In text: (Chen, 2024) or Chen (2024). For a direct quote add the paragraph number if there are no pages, e.g. (Chen, 2024, para. 4).

Common mistakes
- Capitalising every main word in the webpage title — APA webpage titles use sentence case.
- Writing only the year when the page shows a full publication date.
- Putting a full stop after the URL, or breaking the URL across lines by hand.
- Repeating the site name when the author and the site are exactly the same — leave the site name out in that case.
